The name Vespa is translated into'wasp' in English, which was what the original body style resembled. Many Vespa scooter models still made have similarities to the original body design, but still lots of other designs have been made through the company.
the littlest and least strong Vespa Scooters have fifty cc engines while the biggest and most dynamic engines from Vespa are 200 cc. Vespa scooter engines of every size in between are also made to accommodate each type of driver. Their recognition grew in part because of the convenient transport alternative Vespa scooters originally made in cities and nations that greatly required them to keep on expansion.

possession, now considered vintage.
Vintage Vespas are not only valuable because of likeness ; they are valuable monetarily also which is the main appeal to some collectors.

These
restoration locations where certificated because Paggio saw that each shop had a keen and familiar appreciation of mechanically working with old or vintage Vespa scooters as well as with the more moderen models. The certificated Vespa Vintage shops are where the company endorses you take your vintage scooter to ensure quality service.

through the Vespa scooter catalog you can order Vespa Vintage parts for transforming old Vespas. The parts are certificated original because they're made from the original drawings used to design the first Vespa scooters. Parts for other Vespa scooters can be bought through the Vespa catalog or from scooter parts retailers on the internet. For extraordinary recommends of Vespa scooters, new or vintage, there are Vespa clubs in some towns that help bring together those with general interests.

Online Vespa scooter sites provide a medium to contribute your thoughts or questions about Vespa scooters. sites offer all sorts of information about Vespa, for example events involving the Vespa brand of scooters, releases of the latest models and books or other publications with Vespa scooter information. Newb and experienced information can be found at the many Vespa scooter sites such as www.mytvespaparts.com to help Vespa owners stay alongside of the latest.

Veterans Day: Thank You For Your Service

Veterans Day is by far one of our most important holidays here in the USA. Users can find products and services in their own region i.e. London, North West, South East etc with great ease. Another fantastic addition that was suggested by our users was that of a section for Vespa Art whereby we display artistic Vespa photos intended to give users inspiration when restoring, rebuilding, customizing their Vespa scooter. Users submit their own Vespa photos and the best are displayed. When browsing the internet whilst researching for the re-design, we found it incredibly difficult to find all the different suppliers of the plethora of services that are needed in a restoration project, so we simply had to address it for the benefit of our users bringing everything into a single central resource. With over 1,300 Facebook fans in the space of a few months and visitor levels increasing by the day, we must be doing something right! Onboard a Vespa, life never passes you by. New sights, sounds and smells all rev up your senses and the spirit of freedom, fun and adventure is suddenly in abundant supply. With the simple twist of a throttle, you’re on your way to experiencing everything around you with heightened awareness and a fresh perspective. And, Vespa makes it all so easy, inexpensive and environmentally friendly.

The main thing with the Vespa is the steel frame, which provides a much better ride. And also, long term durability. The steel frame really adds to the rigidity and the luxurious ride you get.

Vespa is a quick way of getting around the city. Vespa is a fun way  to see the city, and there’s no better way to cut through traffic. It’s  an added convenience;
get where you want to go and park where you want, thanks to Vespa’s un-intrusive footprint.

With an automatic twist n’ go transmission, upright riding position and the security of Vespa’s unique steel frame, you can focus on the thrill and adventure of the ride. An exceptional average fuel economy of 70 mpg means you’ll dip into your wallet far less frequently than even public transportation users. And, the clean-running Vespa four-stroke engine gets you there with minimal emissions.

Vespa riders quickly discover that even everyday travel becomes a memorable adventure. A daily commute into the city, a last-minute errand, a fast Saturday trip to the farmer’s market – suddenly you’ll look for reasons to twist the throttle and go. Is time on your side? Then switch gears without ever shifting and take your Vespa away for the weekend or a leisurely jaunt to destination unknown. Stuck in traffic? Your Vespa is your congestion escape clause.

Publish Post

Wherever you choose to ride, you’ll get there with a minimum of fuel, a maximum of fun and plenty of storage space to bring your laptop or that gallon of organic milk.

Wheels of Arabia (WOA), a subsidiary of Khalid Almoayed & Sons W.L.L., has been instrumental in bringing Vespa to the country. LOUIS, MO (KTVI - FOX2now.com) - New additions to Fair St. Louis this year could turn out to be life-savers. With perhaps the fairest "fair" weather in decades, organizers were expecting what could be largest crowds in years; perfect timing for the Fair St. Louis debut of the St. Louis Fire Department's new, two-wheeled ambulances: Vespa motor scooters packed with potentially life-saving gear.

"There's 30 floats ... we've got 11 marching bands ... we've got 8 of the giant helium balloons (like those in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade)," said Veiled Profit Parade and Fair St. Louis Spokesman, Bob Schenk.

"Then we've got hundreds and hundreds of costumed characters, could be the muny kids singing, could be clowns, could be characters on the pirate float behind us. What they really do is bring the floats to life," he said.

Sign Up For Daily Newsletters From FOX 2

Two other new additions will help protect lives. City paramedics will work the parade grounds on two scooters equipped with a full range of life saving gear, from stethoscopes IV's and oxygen tanks to defribilators to re-start a stopped heart.

"It'll get a paramedic to the patient a little faster so we can intervene and possibly save the life," said paramedic, Tom Moore. "If it's a pulse-less, breathing patient, we can establish O-2, oxygen, and an IV faster."

8 paramedics will also be on bikes packed with the same gear; ready to squeeze into the crowded spaces four-wheeled ambulances can't; places people who need it most are most likely to be at events like the VP Parade and Fair St. Louis.

Moore said it sure beat the old way of doing things.

"We'd walk in with our bags and we'd walk out with a patient," he said. "That's the only way we were transporting people before, or we had a centralized first aid station people could come to. It was quite difficult...it's a big improvement from days gone by."

The return of fair events, like the popular air shows, should make the crowds thicker.

"We came up with the caption, 'The Memories Are Back' ", Schenk said, "for St. Louis and the folks who've been here in the past, whether it was specific bands that played, whether it was the air show, whether it was just kind of coming to an outdoor festival for the first time, we're really proud to be doing this for the 30th year. Folks will be really pleased with what they get."

He said don't worry about Lenor K. Sullivan Boulevard on the riverfront being under the waters of the Mississippi River right now; all fair attractions are high and dry on the archgrounds.

The scooters debuted in the St. Pat's Day parade.

So far, they've helped patients with everything from heat exhaustion to diabetes complications; even 1 case of cardiac arrest.

Vespa Scooters to re-enter India through Piaggio!

Piaggio, the popular 3 wheeler commercial vehicles maker will bring back the Vespa scooters to the Indian soil.

Piaggio's Chairman & C. S.p.A, the Italian scooter manufacturer had joined hands for a business deal to set up a new factory in the country and there will be a launch of Vespa LX 125 model in 2012. Piaggio's new facility will have a capacity of 1,50,000 units per annum. With an estimated investment of Euro 30 million in the 2010-2011 fiscal year, the company will increase the revenue later in 2015 by euro 70 million.

Vespa had been in India since 1950, when it had the JV with Firodias. Also, the company had tie up with LML, which broke up in 1999.

Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited is manufacturing vehicles from the Baramati Plant. Piaggio plans to produce 1 L and 1.2 L diesel engines for its commercial vehicles. These will be exported to other Asian markets and also to Europe.

The main reason for companies like Piaggio eyeing on Indian auto market is that India is having a robust sales growth in vehicle sales like never before.During the 2004-2009 period, the Indian two wheeler market grew at the rate of 7% per annum, including the global recession period.

Also, among the total sales of two wheelers in India, 15% is scooter segment and surprisingly the scooter sales had made a promising 13% growth. So, its very wise for Piaggio to launch Vespa LX 125 cc in India sooner!

by vicky.in

'Scooter Armor' turns your Vespa into an armadillo

If you've ever had a bike or scooter stolen, then you've probably shopped for elaborate locks and chains. Well, call it whatever you want to call it, I do have a soft corner for old Vespas and Vespas made in India under license from Piaggio. Whoa, that includes scores of Bajaj 150’s/Supers/Chetaks/Cubs; Priya 150’s and even LML Vespas and the odd Vespa PL 170’s. But primarily I am concentrating on rescuing Bajaj 150’s and Priya 150’s that has the look and feel of the original from the 1950-60’s complete with the curvaceous Wasp-ish rear-end that gave it the Vespa tag. What makes me love them – the simplicity of design, the classic origins, the numerous movies and lore and all of the above. Actually, more than anything else a Vespa 150 or a clone is a piece of art in itself. And me, I think of unloved, abandoned examples as blank pieces of canvass that can be used to express my mind. I know, psychedelic scooters are done to death already but what the heck, I have just started!

The process is simple as it happened with Roxanne and Alice – a Bajaj 150 and a Priya 150 that came my way. Identify the scooter, pay a maximum of Rs 4000 for it, then do the essential repair and body work and paint it for another Rs 6000 and you get a piece of art that can do the milk-run.

Roxanne was supposed to be a Lamborghini edition but I couldn’t get the right stickers and hence decided to settle for a checkered-tape that lend the scooter a degree of sportiness. But when Alice was given the matt black and red paint job that was inspired by the black and red that makes up Ferraris I was also determined to get the livery right. So one flank of the scooter pays homage to the Formula One car (F2009) while the other apes the road-going supercar. Painstakingly cut and paste Italian tricolore and a prancing horse (ok, that was a bit blatant but what the heck!) later we had a scooter that, in my eyes, looked just perfect. Cost? Rs 10,000 only including the donor scooter.

Sadly, the scooter is not going to be mine and I felt the tug in my pump when it was time to let her go. Alice will ferry my friend Vishal to the starting points of various half-marathons and training sessions as I embark on the next project that revolves around a theme of WWII aircraft, nose-art (semi-naked women, of course) and overall a riveted look. After that I will start considering an installation art exhibition on Indian Vesp-art!

I am loving it.

Piaggio, Aprilia, Gilera and Vespa brands now under Naza

The Naza Group is the official distributor of marques from Chevy to Ferrari in the car market, and its bike division is now catching up fast, thanks to new additions Piaggio, Aprilia, Gilera and Vespa. The conglomerate has signed a Distributorship Agreement with the Piaggio Group to become the exclusive distributor for the latter’s four brands. Naza already has Ducati and Harley-Davidson in its bike stable.

The signing was done by Naza’s Joint Group Executive Chairman Dato’ Hj SM Faisal and Piaggio Asia Pacific Managing Director, Mark Franklin, and was witnessed by Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Dato’ Mukhriz Tun Mahathir and Commercial Affairs Attache of the Italian Embassy, Fabrizio Vergamini.

Naza will invest some RM6 million into this venture, which would include a retail showroom and after-sales facilities. The products will also will be distributed under the Naza World of Bikes umbrella. The company also has the option to import and distribute the other three brands in the Piaggio Group – Moto Guzzi, Scrabero and Derbi.

Dato’ Hj SM Faisal said that the market for big bikes bucked 2009’s downward trend and significant growth is expected. “The total industry volume in 2009 dropped around 17% as compared to 2008. However the lifestyle segment increased approximately by 40%, from 1,800 units to 2,500 units in 2009. The segment is expected to further increase in 2010 to 3,000 units,” he pointed out.

The Naza boss also revealed that both parties would explore the possibilities of locally assembling at least one of the brands for the ASEAN region.

[Source: If you think that only streetwear labels and clothing brands can team up with Adidas, you are far behind the latest collaboration. At this point, an Italian line that specializes in manufacturing scooters has crossed path with Adidas. Vespa by Piaggio which is known to be Europe’s largest manufacturer of two-wheeled vehicles and world’s fourth largest motorcycle manufacturer by unit sales has a clutch pressed for an Adidas line.

The recently dropped Adidas Vespa S scooter-inspired is now available in a sleek looking low top which was made up of White leather upper with Royal Blue and Red hints. For the lateral, alternate Blue-Red-Blue stripes signify the Adidas emblem whereas a metal Vespa plate serves as a charm on the heel. The collar has a Royal Blue felt-like material and the inner liner comes in White.

Other brandings appear on the tongue, heel tab, rear midsole, and outsole. The Adidas Vespa S owns a ridged White rubber midsole with White shoe laces. This is now available at Schuh-You.

A top (gear) trip through Vietnam by scooter

} );
We have opted to ride together on the most breathtaking leg of our epic seven-day journey with Vietnam Vespa Adventures, exploring the rich and varying landscapes of southern and central Vietnam.

This stretch of road takes us from the old French colonial charms of Da Lat in the central highlands down to our final destination - the hustle and bustle of the beachside resort mecca that is Nha Trang.

Our riding ability and, in turn, our confidence has grown dramatically since the first day of the tour, test driving the Vespas on an unsealed, pot-holed but, most importantly, quiet road down by the Saigon River in Ho Chi Minh City.

Initially it's surprising how these stylish scooters heralding from the 1950s and 60s feel to ride. They are definitely not made of plastic.

It doesn't take long to get a handle on taking off in first gear, slowly letting go of the clutch, shifting back and forth into higher and lower gears, and braking.

If you can drive a manual car and ride a bicycle, you can do this. But the option is also there to drive a modern automatic moped.

"While we always offer people the option of an automatic, driving a manual Vespa makes for a truly authentic experience," says the tour operators founder Steve Mueller.

Steve, who was born and bred in the United States, bought his very first vintage Vespa - a pea-green and white 1968 model - in Vietnam for $US300 ($A325.50).

He has since built up a niche business restoring and exporting the scooters worldwide.

They were once status symbols for legions of French residents until their eviction in 1954, he says.

After the end of the war in 1975, and the country's subsequent closure to all foreign travel, the Vietnamese had to keep using and repairing them while, in other parts of the world, they were put on the scrap heap.

It's akin to the classic American cars still cruising the streets of Cuba.

Like a lot of fans of the BBC's Top Gear program, we love the episode where the guys travel the length of Vietnam on motorbikes.

But unlike Jeremy Clarkson and the lads, who had to use bikes that cost less than $US250 ($A271), we get to travel in style.

Atop our uber-retro rides, in single file we follow the lead of our tour guide Walter, a witty and knowledgeable Aussie who served in the army during the Vietnam War.

We immediately discover that concentration is essential, particularly when riding in city traffic or picking our way between cavernous potholes on back-country roads.

Yet it doesn't take long to feel comfortable on the scooter and feel the total freedom and exhilaration.

We are never thrown in the deep end - guides ride at the front and back of the group while mechanics are at the ready in a support van carrying the luggage, or even you, if there's a need for some time-out.

Unlike the chaotic scenes on Ho Chi Minh City's mish-mash of streets, teeming with mopeds sounding their horns, running red lights and driving on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic, most of our travel on this tour occurs amid rural areas.

Apart from one instance of children shepherding oxen along the road, traffic is thin and we even enjoy vast stretches of road all to ourselves.

From Vung Tau, we cruise along some of Vietnam's most scenic coastline where hibiscus bushes, bearing blood-red flowers backlit by sunrays, line the streets.

Mile after mile of gloriously empty blacktop unravels before us along a wild coastline where you can taste the salt spray from the ocean a few metres to the right, while high, barren dunes stretch inland.

When we reach the secluded fishing village of Mui Ne, we marvel at the riot of colour created by the highly-decorated boats on the azure-blue water as fishermen return with their catch.

After Mui Ne, we leave the coast and head for the mountains where the cool, calm of Da Lat awaits us some 1500 metres above sea-level.

The writers were guests of Vietnam Vespa Adventures.

IF YOU GO:

Several airlines have flights between Australia and Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietnam Vespa Adventures offers one, three and seven-day tours departing from Ho Chi Minh City. Tour prices range from $US37 ($A40) per person on the one-day tour to $US2000 ($A2,169) for a couple on the seven-day tour.

Meals and accommodation are included. At that time I was just too young to ride a motorcycle or scooter but loved the whole Mod fashion thing.

My friends were in the main older than me by a couple of years which meant they were allowed to own those beautifully polished Vespa's with chromed bubbles, which are great scooters, but better than that a couple of them had the stunning Lambretta 200 SX. The thing I liked most about the SX was that it seemed longer than the Vespa, which not only enhanced and streamlined it but also seemed to give more room for a pillion to ride in comfort.

The whole Mod thing was great, living Newcastle meant there was a real buzz, however if we wanted to try these wonderful machines for speed we had to head to the country, probably into Northumberland. As a passenger I felt as if we were doing 90 mph, however in reality the Lambretta SX was only capable of speeds around 75mph.

I recently discovered an article about a guy called Nathan Redfearn who renovates and rebuilds scooters. The thing caught my eye was a picture of a perfectly restored Lambretta SX 200 with Union Jack side panels; it was absolutely stunning. Reading on I discovered that he had moved to Vietnam in 2003 whilst working for ICI, his background being in car restoration in both Britain and America.

It was great to read that he felt he owed his existence to the Lambretta; apparently in the sixties his Mother was a young Mod cruising around Torquay on her blue and white SX. These days he has a passion for restoring, and has set up a business in Ho Chi Min City (formerly Saigon).

With his Vietnamese wife and a fully trained workforce of around sixty people they import and strip the scooters down to their component parts before lovingly restoring them to look like new. They replace any rusted or worn parts before putting them on a jig for trueness, then finally reassemling and painting. All parts are genuine replacements sourced from the likes of Piaggio.

As a company they are aimed squarely at the motorcycle and classic car enthusiast although you can tell that his first love is the Lambretta. Restoring between 30 and 40 scooters a month they will ship anywhere in the world and guarantee satisfaction. It really is great to see someone so passionate about scooters being able to turn a hobby into a thriving business.

Restored Vespa,lambretta and Gp200

Vespabretta, India's premier Vespa and Lambretta restoration and spare parts specialist , To many, new scooters have never been able to recreate the look and elegance of a classic Vespa or Lambretta. The lines and grace of these early models are timeless. More and more people opt

to leave their big gas guzzling cars in the garage and hop on a gas scooter that will quickly take them to their destination, help

them alleviate some stress induced by traffic and finding parking as well as save them gas money.

Having made a good case for buying a street legal gas scooter, one is faced with a flood of gas scooters brands and models.

Choosing the perfect gas scooter does not have to be a nerve wrecking experience. To start one must determine the budget for the

acquisition of a scooter, consider the intended use as well as check local scooter laws. Will the scooter be ridden on highways and

expressways? Is a motorcycle license required? Is one person going to be riding or does the scooter need to carry 2 people? What

will the insurance cost?

Gas scooters come in many sizes and flavors. There is a perfect street legal scooter for everyone. From 50cc gas scooters that cost

around $800 to 650cc Suzuki that cost over $7000 the choices are plentiful.

The first step to buying the perfect gas scooter is to call the local DMV, sheriff or police station. Most US States do not require a

special driver license to ride street legal scooters under 50cc. Some States allow people to ride up to 149cc with a car driver

license. Most States do not allow gas scooters under 125cc on highways and expressways.

The budget should also be decided early on. How much will be spent on  the perfect scooter under $1000; between $1000 and $2000;

or over $2000?

How big of an engine does the perfect scooter have? Is it a 50cc, 125 to 150cc, 200 to 300cc or a big fat 650cc scooter?

There are 2 main choices when choosing the perfect gas scooter, to buy from a local dealer or order a scooter online. People with

means and needing full service should opt to buy from a local scooter dealer. People with limited budget and / or mechanically

inclined people may consider buying their scooter online.

Street legal gas scooters are fun to ride, economical, easy to maintain and fuel-efficient. Some scooters get over 100 MPG. They

are the perfect choice for whoever wants to save time, money and frustration.

[Source]

Sixty years of Vespa Girls: Cast your vote for the best of the bombshells

Vespa celebrated 60 years in operation in 2005 and to commemorate the anniversary, Vespa introduced a new model, LX. It must be spring!

The cherry blossoms are peaking in Washington, D.C., the crocuses have popped in the northeast and the poppies are back in California. It must be spring and this year, it's even greener because Vespa is delivering a new 150cc electronic fuel-injected engine that — at an amazing 85 miles per gallon — is even more fuel-efficient than previous models.

Vespa, of course, is the coolest, hippest, most stylish scooter zipping around the planet. Its retro styling and classic aesthetics have made it a must-have for scooter enthusiasts and now that Vespa has created a model that consumes 15 percent less fuel than its predecessors, it's a poster child of fuel efficiency and enduring enviro-cool. The latest 2011 Vespa S 150, LX 150, and LXV 150 models are all designed to provide stronger and smoother acceleration in stop-and-go city traffic, which makes it perfect for commuters. Plus it has a front-disc braking system which allows riders to safely make sudden stops on a dime.

But for those who just enjoy the feeling of fresh air and open road riding, this little puppy promises to get you there in a green way — with less fuel consumption, fewer carbon emissions and with much more fun than a four-wheel vehicle can deliver. The 2011 Vespa S 150 i.e. models start at $4,399.

Manufactured by the Piaggio Group, the company was established in 1884 and is based in Pontedera, Italy.
